| Arrive a few days early and visit Dubrovnik, known as “the jewel of the Adriatic.” The city is rich in cultural and historical monuments and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. There’s plenty to see and do, and we’re happy to arrange your pre-trip hotel for you, just ask!
Day 1 Dubrovnik We’ll meet at our hotel at 3 p.m. for a short orientation meeting. You'll have the remainder of the afternoon to assemble our bikes and enjoy a stroll along the seaside promenade before our welcome dinner together.
Dubrovnik's appeal lies in the old town of Stari Grad, with its marble-paved squares, steep cobbled streets, tall homes, convents, churches, palaces, fountains and museums, all cut from the same light-colored stone. Dubrovnik's 82-foot-high city walls were built between the 13th and 16th centuries and remain virtually unchanged. A walk along these walls will be the highlight of your visit to Dubrovnik.
Day 2 Korčula Ride 37 miles/2,200 feet, with options for more We’ll transfer to Maili Ston, a city located on Peljesac Peninsula, surrounded by imposing walls built in the 14th century. We’ll ride the length of the Peljesac Peninsula on our way to Korčula, enjoying views of the Adriatic. Korčula is also known as "mini-Dubrovnik," with buildings made of honey-colored limestone. Dinner together.
Day 3 Korčula Island - Loop Ride Ride Options: 24-29 miles/0-1,200 ft - 67 miles/4,300 ft – 81 miles/6,700 ft Spend the day relaxing and swimming in the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, or join us on the group ride around the island, where we’ll pedal along vineyards, olive groves and forests of pine, oak and cypress. We can also visit a local winery. Dinner together.
Day 4 Trpanj - Ljubuski BiH Ride: 56 miles/4,200 feet After a short ferry ride across the Peljesac Strait, we’ll ride up and over the spine of Peljesac Peninsula to Trpanj, where you can enjoy a natural mud treatment using the therapeutic mud from a local lagoon. We’ll take a mid-day ferry to the mainland of Croatia and ride through the Vrgorač Polje on our way to Ljubuski, Bosnia Herzegovina. We’ll spend the afternoon swimming at a wonderful waterfall pool and then visit Gary's cousin's sheep ranch, where we’ll get acquainted with the local culture and customs as we enjoy homemade wine and grappa and a lamb BBQ dinner together! Both of Gary's paternal grandparents emigrated from here in 1914.
Day 5 Makarska Ride: 31 miles/2,000 feet - Option to climb Mt. Biokovo, 14 miles/5,000 feet We’ll take a short ride to the beautiful coastal resort village of Makarska. We’ll cross back into Croatia along the way and will traverse scenic mountain roads with a spectacular descent back to the Adriatic Sea. We’ll have the best view of the Dalmatian Islands on today’s ride. Dinner on your own.
You may choose an optional ride up Biokovo Mountain, the highest mountain in Dalmatia. It rises vertically from the Adriatic Coast to a height of 5,781 feet. The views from Biokovo are spectacular—on a clear day, you can see all the Dalmatian Islands and a large part of the Dalmatian coast. If you’re lucky, you may even see the peak of Monte Gargano in Italy.
The Makarska Riviera stretches between the towns of Brela and Gradac with the main town being, of course, Makarska. The Riviera is one of the most beautiful areas, with countless sandy beaches, pine trees, sparkling water and peaceful bays, making it one of the most popular tourist locations along the Croatian coast.
Day 6 Brac Ride 28 miles/3,000 feet, with options for more Brac, one of the largest of the central Dalmatian Islands, is known for its milky-white marble—it was used in the construction of the White House in Washington, D.C., and the Diocletian's Palace in Split. The island offers an unspoiled natural environment, a rich cultural heritage, and beautiful beaches and bays. Dinner together.
Day 7 Brac Island - Loop Ride
Ride: 28 miles/1,500 feet or 38 miles/3,000 feet You have the entire day to explore the island or simply relax on the beach, swim or get a massage—it's your choice! We recommend a cycling route that includes lunch at Luka Bobovisda and a swim before climbing 1,140 feet to Nerezisca. You may also stop and visit Skrip, the oldest settlement on the island. Dinner together at a local konoba (a small inn or restaurant).
Optional Ride: Climb 2,552 feet to Vidova Gora, the highest point on the Dalmatia Islands. Enjoy spectacular panoramic views from the restaurant at the top!
Day 8 Bol and Hvar Island Ride 29 miles /2,600 feet, with options for more We’ll take a scenic ride to Bol, close to Croatia's most unusual and photographed beach, Zlatni Rat, which extends like a wedge into the sea for more than 550 yards. The route to Bol includes scrub-covered uplands, cypress forests, orange and olive trees and stone walls. We’ll have an afternoon boat transfer to our hotel on the island of Hvar. Dinner on your own.
Hvar is the most famous and seductive Adriatic island. It has been classified by Condé Nast Traveler magazine as one of the most beautiful islands of the world along with Bali, Zanzibar, Mykonos and Capri.
Day 9 Hvar Island - Loop Ride Ride : 39 miles/2,600 feet or 53 miles/2,900 feet. Choose to relax and enjoy our B&B on the sea, and/or take a loop ride and visit Hvar town, an ancient Greek city that boasts the largest square of the Adriatic after Saint Mark's Square in Venice. Today’s route includes a dramatic landscape of jagged limestone cliffs and fields of rosemary and lavender. Final celebration dinner together.
Day 10 Depart from Split We’ll take an early-morning ferry transfer to Split, Croatia's second largest city and another UNESCO World Heritage site. Split has one of the most imposing Roman ruins anywhere—the Roman emperor Diocletian’s retirement palace—and most of Split’s old town is contained within its walls. We’ll say our goodbyes in Split, where you’ll either transfer to the airport for your mid-day departure or extend your stay in Split, Dubrovnik, Zagreb or nearby Bosnia or Montenegro.
