| Day 1 Bariloche, Argentina Bariloche, known as the "Aspen of South America,” is nestled in the foothills of the Andes, surrounded by lakes and mountains. Bariloche is located within Argentina's beautiful Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, and is a bustling ski destination in winter and a base for summer hiking, cycling and water activities.
We’ll meet at our quaint hotel at 2 p.m. for a welcome meeting—you’ll enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain views this hotel offers. After our meeting, you’ll have the remainder of the afternoon to assemble/fit bikes, relax at one of the many cafés, or join us for a short ride warm-up ride. Welcome dinner together.
Day 2 Lago Espejo Ride 12 miles with options for more! We'll begin our tour with a boat ride across Lake Nahuel Huapi, stopping along the way to visit Isla Victoria, a lush botanical reserve. Once we reach the other side of the lake, we’ll ride on dirt roads along the isthmus of the Quetrihue Peninsula, through the pristine forests of Los Arrányanes National Park to our hotel on Lago Espejo. Dinner together.
Day 3 San Martin de los Andes Ride 71 miles, 60% on dirt roads We'll ride along the famous and scenic Seven Lakes Route on the dazzling shores of Espejo chico, Pichi Traful, Villarino Falkner and Machonico. This evening, we’ll stay on the shore of Lago Lacar in the fashionable resort town of San Martin de los Andes, surrounded by striking mountain scenery. Dinner on your own.
Day 4 Lago Traful Ride 50-75 miles, 50% on dirt roads We'll make our way past Lago Meliquina and ride to Lago Traful, located in a relatively undeveloped area of Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, to the tiny, tranquil resort village of Villa Traful. Dinner together.
Day 5 Termas de Puyehue Ride 56 miles Get ready for a challenging day as we head west across the Andes via Cardenal Samore Pass (4,251 feet) into Chile. Reward yourself with a massage or a soak at the renowned thermal resort when we arrive at our destination, Termas de Puyehue! Dinner together.
Day 6 Puerto Octay Ride 59 miles, 40% on dirt roads Today we will enjoy an easy pedal past two scenic Chilian lakes, Lago Rupanco and Lago Llanquihue (pronounced "yan-kee-way") to the lakeside port town of Puerto Octay. The German-style architecture of the town makes you feel more like you’re in the Alps than the Andes. Dinner together.
Day 7 Puerto Varas Ride 43 miles, 50% on dirt roads We'll continue along the shores of Lago Llanquihue and enjoy the spectacular views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes in the distance. You can stop in Frutillar to visit the town’s outdoor German Pioneer Museum to learn more about the strong German heritage of the Patagonian Lakes District.
We’ll spend the evening in Puerto Varas, located on the shore of Lago Llanquihue and one of Chile's most charming villages. Puerto Varas is an adventure travel hub and the gateway to the Parque Nacional Vicente Pérez Rosales. This lively little town boasts lakeside views of the distant volcano, German-inspired architecture and a casino. This is a perfect town to grab a post-ride beer. Dinner on your own.
Day 8 Petrohue Ride 40 miles, 10% on dirt roads On our final day of riding, we’ll ride to National Park Vicente Pérez Rosales, at the foot of the Osorno volcano. We’ll visit the Salto de Petrohue (waterfalls) before reaching our final destination in Petrohue. Final celebration dinner together.
Day 9 Trip Conclusion We’ll say our goodbyes after our breakfast together. We’ll provide a transfer to Puerto Montt for your mid-morning plane departure home. You may wish to extend your stay and return to Bariloche via the famous Lakes Crossing or visit Patagonia and/or Antarctica. We’ll be happy to offer suggestions.
